Counter protests took to the streets of Sheffield city centre today, on Saturday, September 26.
Sheffield Patriots, a right-wing group, began their demonstration in Peace Gardens. The counter-protest, led by left-wing group Sheffield Communities Against Racism and Fascism assembled at Sheffield Station.
South Yorkshire Police officers were deployed around the centre. The police said their role was to balance the rights of those who want to protest and those who may be impacted.
Legal conditions have been in place under Section 158 of the Crime and Policing Act 2026 from 7am, for 24 hours. This means anyone wearing a face covering or another item which conceals their identity in the designated area may be committing an offence.
